I will install home insulation

Warm homes are healthy homes, and the best way of warming up your home without creating a huge power bill is to install insulation in your ceiling, under the floor, or in the walls. You could save more than $300 every year by doing this! You can install some insulation yourself, or talk to an expert about what is best for your home – you might even qualify for funding through Council or government grants or loans.

Make this pledge and your action could save 295 kg of CO2e emissions per year - that's like running 113 compact florescent light bulbs non-stop for 45 days.

I will find and work with a sustainable building designer or architect when I’m building or renovating

This is one of the best things you can do to have a warmer, drier, more comfortable and efficient home, that is cheaper to run and reduces your carbon footprint in the long term. Auckland Council has a free Eco Design Advisor service that you can book for advice when renovating or building.

I will install or retrofit double glazing on our windows at home

There are lots of options for retrofitting double glazing or building it into a new build or renovation. The low-cost option can be done yourself (although technically not double glazing, the effect is the same). The difference it makes to how warm and quiet your home is definitely worth the investment.

Make this pledge and your action could save 24 kg of CO2e emissions per year - that's like driving from Māngere to Helensville.

I will hire a HEAT kit

The Home Energy Audit Toolkit (HEAT kit) is available free of charge from your local library. The kit features tools and information to help you work out where your home uses the most energy, and how to reduce your bills and have a healthier, warmer home. As a bonus, by saving energy in the home you'll also reduce your carbon footprint too.
